The Bride’s Bouquet

Category: Ceremony | Curiosity

A Bouquet is a creatively arranged flower arrangement but for a bride on her wedding day it is the most important accessory.

Traditionally, especially in Italy, the bouquet is given by the groom to his bride-to-be and whether it is a civil or religious ceremony at the end of the ceremony it is customary for the bride to throw the bouquet with her back turned to her guests and the lucky girl who manages to catch it will be the next to get married.

There are some differences between religious and civil weddings.
When it is a religious wedding, it is customary for the groom to wait for the bride outside the church, in the churchyard to hand her the bouquet. When it is a civil or symbolic wedding, on the other hand, the bride already has the bouquet and when she arrives at the ceremonial table, it will be the maid of honour who will pick it up and hold it for the rest of the ceremony.
